The Spireites were held to a 0-0 draw with Boreham Wood at the Technique Stadium – ending the run of five consecutive victories.

New signings Kairo Mitchell and Manny Oyeleke came straight into the starting XI, replacing Martin Smith and Adi Yussuf.

James Rowe made a third change to the team with one of the goalscorers against King’s Lynn Town, Tom Whelan, coming in for Liam Mandeville.

Debutant Mitchell had the first chance, rising highest to meet Alex Whittle’s cross. The forward couldn’t keep his header down, though and the ball went over the bar.

In the 10th minute, skipper Gavin Gunning whipped in a free-kick from 30 yards out. The set-piece evaded everyone and went inches wide of the post.

Akwasi Asante looked to grab his first goal in seven games. The ball fell to him after George Carline nodded Gunning’s free-kick across goal, but the striker’s header fell straight to Nathan Ashmore.

Asante was awarded with a golden chance in the 38th minute. Curtis Weston’s long-range effort forced Ashmore into a good save; the ball fell to the striker, but he couldn’t keep his shot down and missed the gaping goal.

The remainder of the first half was full of little fouls that broke the game up and the two sides went into the break level.

The second half started similar to how the first ended, with fouls breaking up the play and neither side getting a proper foothold in the game.

Chesterfield looked like they were about to break the deadlock in the 64th minute when Asante was played in, but Mark Ricketts made a last-ditch challenge on the striker.

Unfortunately, the challenge left its mark on Asante who was helped off the pitch and replaced by Nathan Tyson.

The substitute almost made his mark seven minutes later; fellow substitute Mandeville fed the ball to the forward who made his way to the edge of the box, but his effort curved away from goal and wide.

With five minutes to go, Boreham Wood had the ball in the net through Corey Whitely’s corner finding its way straight in. The referee ruled the goal out though due to a foul on Grant Smith.
